Gangster Thriller Moodboard

In this moodboard of Gangster Thrillers, it is clear male dominance is a stand-out aspect of this genre. We see a lot of violence and many sophisticated men dressed in suits. It is clear most of these films are 18+ due to the violence and filthy language used in Gangster Thrillers.

Women's roles in Gangster Thriller usually fluctuate between being the victim or a hostage, or being a housewife who doesn't really have much love and affection from the husband due to his line of work which would include either deals or gangster-related things. In our trailer, we could reverse the stereotype and give a woman a more dominant role.

Women's roles in gangster thriller usually oscillate between being the victim, a femme-fatale figure, or a housewife lacking affection from the husband due to his line of work which is gangster related. In our trailer we would subvert this stereotype and give a woman a more dominant role.

The Bechdel Test evaluates whether a film (or other fiction) features at least two women who speak to each other on a topic not related to men - only about half of all films meet these requirements and even fewer gangster films. The test indicates the presence of active women in film, drawing attention to gender inequality, and was inspired by a comic strip by Alison Bechdel:
In our film, the audience will see both Jane and Harriet speaking about women things when not around men. Although we're reverting the stereotype, we'll still see woman doing very feminine things, not just being violent and stereotypically masculine.
