Todorov's Theory

Todorov (1977)

Todorov had a simple theory with 5 stages these stages were

Stage1: a point of stable equilibrium, where everything is satisfied, calm and normal

Stage 2: This stability is disturbed by some kind of force, which creates a state of disequilibrium

Stage 3: Recognition that a disruption has taken place

Stage 4: it is only possible to re-create equilibrium through action direction against the disruption

Stage 5: Restoration of a new state of equilibrium the consequences of the reaction is to change the world of the narrative and/or the characters so that the final state of equilibrium is not the same as the initial state

Equilibrium

The gang are all working together with no issues going on and everything is as it should be

Disequilibrium
The stability in our film which is disrupted is that one of the gang members has been betrayed and gets kicked out of the group.

Recognition
The man who has been kicked out Is plotting revenge against his gang and takes matters into his own hands.

Restoration
The man beings killing and members of the gang realise this and the killing spree still continues as the gang beings to fall,
